I snapped these pictures on the way from Ko Samui back to Surat Thani, just to give an idea of what some average houses in Thailand look like. We'd consider it abject poverty, but actually they're middlingly prosperous by world standards: plenty of space, food, water, clothing. Just not eight times too much, like we're used to.
It struck me again and again how rich we are. Not just rich as in "we have everything we need." These people are that kind of rich. I mean rich as in "we have so much more than we'll ever need, and we still aren't satisfied with it." When will we be?
